the vote in 2008. the same state that gave barack obama a majority passed this. they say yes it is constitutional. we need to make a distinction between marriage between traditional couples, because those produce children and it's important to make the distinction for that reason only. the opponents of prop 8 who have prevailed in both the lower courts say, allowing same-sex couples to get married doesn't do anything to traditional couples, it doesn't weaken marriage, it doesn't affect their marriage at all. it's more inclusive and there's no good reason not to do it. slightly different arguments on wednesday in the defense of marriage case, the federal law passed 17 years ago that says the federal government won't recognize any same-sex marriages even in the states where it's legal. the federal government says it has to have its own definition of marriage. the opponents say that doesn't make any sense constitutionally, either. >> prop 8, about the right to get married. d.o.m.a. about federal benefits when married. >> exactly. >> interrelated, but not the same issue. >> yes, becaus

obama voters said that they were for same sex marriage. three-quarters of romney voters said they were not. so there are people in the democratic party who, you know, support traditional marriage. i thought it was really interesting, by the way, this week. i thought it was politico went to a lot of the red state democratic senators on the ballot in 2014. people like mark prior of arkansas and others, mary landrieu in louisiana. they haven't changed their position. and i still think the republican party is going to remain a pro-family, pro-marriage, pro-life party. i don't think that will change. and if it does, by the way, i think the big tent will become a pup tent. if you look at the data, 44% of all the votes mitt romney got last november were from self-identified evangelicals. >> romney's data analyst suggests that republicans and independents who voted for the president who, by the way won, actually overwhelmingly support marriage equality and so this is a growing issue for republicans and independents. you know, again, i think the point david boies made is so fundamental which is

appetite for a war in iran. the same goes with syria. we saw with the libya entanglement, we saw sort of barack obama's doctrine. he is going to be looking for very much multinational-type force. he is going to the u.n. he is looking for the french to take a lot of the lead. he is going to be -- but nobody, even with both syria and with iran, there is no nobody particularly at the pentagon who is really wanting to do this right now. and barack obama least of all. chris: michael. >> chris, this poses problems, the perception which i think is accurate of our wearyness causes problems particularly in iran. people don't believe that this president really is willing to follow through on the use of force because they think that his head is still looking back at iraq. someone who spoke to him recently told me a few days ago that he has said about syria, words to the effect of "i know how i get in. tell me how i get out. i don't know how to get out." he is still thinking of what we got into unexpectedly in iraq, the unintended consequences of american action. it's a defining thing for him. chris

to hear two cases this week on same-sex marriage. these cases could literally transform the landscape of equal rights in this country. earlier today, president obama addressed a naturalization ceremony for new citizens challenging lawmakers to, quote, have courage when the debate resumes next month. perhaps the most volatile issue facing lawmakers right now, the debate over proposed new gun safety measures. this weekend marked 100 days since the sandy hook elementary school massacre, and gun reform advocates are clearly frustrated with the lack of action from lawmakers. organizers are planning a day of action this thursday with events aimed at reducing gun violence across the country. with the future of an assault weapons ban hanging in the balance, and the future of background checks also uncertain, this week new york mayor michael bloomberg's group, mayors against illegal guns, announced it will shell out $12 million on a tv ad campaign in 13 states. >> for me, guns are for hunting and protecting my family. i believe in the second amendment, and i'll fight to protect it. b

, here are a couple of key points i took away from it. what the report says, it's the same stuff the media was saying about the republican party during campaign. remember, media, myself and everybody else, we were all accused of being liberal -- having liberal bias and being proceed obama and in the tank for obama. when people pointed out, for example, that mitt romney's comments about the 47%. this report says the very same thing t at the time, we talked about how the romney campaign didn't have troops on the ground didn't have any really good database. this report says the same thing. the key is and tell me your take on this. 866-55-press. will the party change? will it recognize what went wrong? and will it change? i don't think so. let me give you three quick examples. the report says would havee have to increase our outreach to mine or at this. the day after the the report president obama nominates tom perez for labor secretary and rush limbaugh and says this is as bad as hugo chavez and another because he supports immigration reform. another example, the report says, again, we
